Our client is seeking a Senior Underwriting Manager to lead and oversee the day-to-day functions of their Underwriting unit. This role offers an exciting opportunity to shape the strategic direction of underwriting policies and standards, ensuring they align with expected mortality and morbidity results. The successful candidate will also be responsible for special projects, including the implementation of VIP concierge services. This role is perfect for someone who thrives in a collaborative environment and has a passion for risk appraisal and team management.

What you'll do:

As a Senior Underwriting Manager, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the strategic direction of our client's underwriting policies and standards. You will handle the approval of cases within your authority, referring those beyond your scope to reinsurers. Your expertise will be crucial in ensuring that underwriting standards align with expected mortality and morbidity results. You will conduct case clinics with underwriters, participate in Underwriting Reviews, and determine necessary changes to processes, procedures, and guidelines. Your responsibilities will also include implementing a self-audit program for underwriters, providing guidance to the Client Services unit when necessary, preparing underwriting guidelines for products, approving rules and guidelines, and implementing client services transactions that have underwriting risk.

  • Handle approval of cases within approval authority and refer applications beyond local approval authority to reinsurers
  • Ensure appropriate underwriting standards are in place to align with expected mortality and morbidity results
  • Conduct case clinics with underwriters and participate in Underwriting Reviews
  • Determine changes to underwriting process, procedure, and guidelines
  • Review, recommend, and seek approval for changes to medical/financial evidence requirements and non-medical limits as necessary
  • Implement self-audit program for underwriters
  • Provide guidance to Client Services unit when necessary
  • Prepare underwriting guidelines for products
  • Approve rules and guidelines and implement client services transactions that have underwriting risk

What you bring:

The ideal candidate for this Senior Underwriting Manager position is a college graduate with a preference for those who have completed Nursing or other medical-related courses. You must have completed your LOMA Level 1 Certification and attended local underwriting seminars. Your experience in leading a team, coupled with your strategic and forward-thinking mindset, will be crucial to your success in this role. Experience in Underwriting and New Business is essential, as is the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
