Head of Equity

Save job

An exceptional opportunity has arisen for an accomplished investment professional to take on the pivotal role of Head of Equity at a leading financial institution based in Makati City. This position offers you the chance to shape and execute the organisation’s equity investment strategy, overseeing both local and global portfolios while ensuring alignment with long-term financial objectives and risk frameworks.

What you'll do:

As Head of Equity, you will play an instrumental role in shaping the future direction of the organisation’s equity investments. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve crafting forward-thinking strategies that balance risk with reward while ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations. You will guide your team through complex market environments by providing mentorship rooted in deep analytical expertise. By collaborating closely with other departments such as Risk Management and Actuarial Services, you will help maintain robust governance standards. Your ability to communicate clearly with senior stakeholders—translating intricate market data into actionable insights—will be crucial for driving informed decision-making at every level. This is an opportunity for you to make a lasting impact by championing research excellence, fostering teamwork among colleagues, and delivering value through prudent portfolio management.

  • Develop and implement the overall equity investment strategy in line with the organisation’s risk appetite, asset-liability management framework, and long-term objectives.
  • Oversee both active and passive equity portfolios across local and global markets, ensuring optimal asset allocation and consistent performance monitoring.
  • Continuously monitor market trends, macroeconomic indicators, and industry developments to identify new investment opportunities as well as potential risks.
  • Lead the evaluation, selection, and ongoing monitoring of external fund managers and equity mandates to ensure alignment with strategic goals.
  • Direct fundamental and quantitative research efforts on companies, sectors, and broader markets to generate actionable investment insights.
  • Produce detailed investment recommendations for internal stakeholders by synthesising complex data into clear guidance.
  • Ensure all research processes adhere to best practices while supporting robust data-driven decision-making across the team.
  • Work closely with Risk, Compliance, and Actuarial teams to maintain strict adherence to regulatory guidelines, internal policies, and insurance-specific solvency requirements.
  • Implement rigorous controls, portfolio guidelines, and performance measurement processes to safeguard assets and optimise returns.
  • Present portfolio performance updates, strategic reviews, and market outlooks to the Investment Committee and Board while building strong relationships with external partners.

What you bring:

To excel as Head of Equity, you will bring a wealth of experience from previous roles where you have overseen significant equity portfolios within institutional or insurance environments. Your expertise spans both active management—where tactical decisions are paramount—and passive strategies that require careful oversight. You possess advanced analytical skills honed through years of conducting thorough research using both qualitative judgement and quantitative tools. Your approach is grounded in a deep appreciation for compliance standards unique to regulated industries; you understand how these intersect with broader risk frameworks. As someone who thrives on collaboration, you are adept at guiding teams towards shared goals while nurturing individual growth. Your communication style is clear yet nuanced—capable of distilling complex concepts into accessible recommendations for diverse audiences. Above all else, your dedication to ethical stewardship ensures that every decision reflects not only sound financial reasoning but also a genuine commitment to stakeholder wellbeing.

  • Extensive experience in equity strategy development and portfolio management within large-scale institutional or insurance settings is essential for success in this role.
  • A proven track record of managing both active and passive equity portfolios across diverse geographies demonstrates your breadth of expertise.
  • Strong background in conducting fundamental as well as quantitative research on companies, sectors, or markets enables you to generate valuable investment insights.
  • Deep understanding of risk management principles—including regulatory compliance requirements specific to insurance or financial services—is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate external fund managers effectively ensures alignment with organisational objectives.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills allow you to mentor teams collaboratively while building trust-based relationships internally and externally.
  • Excellent communication abilities are necessary for presenting complex information clearly to senior leadership groups such as Investment Committees or Boards.
  • Experience implementing rigorous controls around portfolio guidelines supports robust performance measurement processes.
  • A commitment to upholding best practices in research methodology underpins your approach to data-driven decision-making.
  • Familiarity with asset-liability management frameworks further enhances your capacity for strategic planning.
