Save job

A growing organisation is looking for a Legal Manager to support its operations in the Philippines. The role involves providing legal guidance across corporate governance, contracts, and compliance matters. This is an opportunity for an experienced lawyer to contribute strategically in a dynamic and expanding business environment.

What you'll do:

As Legal Manager, you will be entrusted with overseeing the full spectrum of legal affairs for a rapidly growing retail enterprise. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless corporate governance across multiple entities. You will take ownership of drafting and negotiating critical commercial agreements that underpin key business partnerships while standardising processes to drive operational efficiency. In addition to managing litigation cases from inception through resolution—including interactions with courts and government agencies—you will lead efforts in identifying potential risks before they arise. Your expertise will be instrumental in developing innovative solutions for special projects such as investment programmes or new market entries. By facilitating essential permits and registrations alongside providing actionable legal insights for stakeholders at every level, you will help shape the company’s reputation as a dependable partner in the region’s evolving retail landscape.

  • Oversee all aspects of corporate operations, governance, and regulatory compliance for multiple entities within the organisation, ensuring strict adherence to both local and international legal frameworks.
  • Draft, review, negotiate, and standardise a wide range of commercial agreements including service contracts, non-disclosure agreements, supply agreements, joint ventures, and franchise arrangements to optimise efficiency and minimise risk exposure.
  • Manage litigation processes by handling court cases, arbitration matters, and administrative proceedings with government agencies; prepare pleadings, position papers, and legal representations as required for adjudication or registration.
  • Lead comprehensive legal risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies that align with evolving regulatory requirements while safeguarding organisational interests.
  • Provide proactive legal advice across diverse business operations to ensure ongoing compliance with global standards and best practices.
  • Coordinate effectively with global teams to maintain consistency in contract management procedures and compliance initiatives.
  • Develop and implement special projects such as investment programmes or residency schemes involving high-value contracts; support tax-related issues, labour cases, and client relations as needed.
  • Facilitate business permits acquisition, SEC registrations, and timely compliance reporting for both local and foreign stakeholders.
  • Conduct thorough legal research to provide well-founded opinions that inform strategic decision-making at all levels of the organisation.
  • Support internal teams by delivering clear guidance on complex legal matters while fostering positive relationships with external partners.

What you bring:

To excel as Legal Manager in this forward-thinking organisation, you will bring not only deep technical knowledge but also outstanding interpersonal skills that foster trust across diverse teams. Your background should reflect substantial experience navigating intricate legal environments typical of large-scale retail operations. You are comfortable managing multifaceted responsibilities—from contract negotiations to dispute resolution—and thrive when providing clear guidance under tight deadlines. Your ability to analyse complex scenarios enables you to anticipate challenges before they escalate while your commitment to ethical practice ensures consistent compliance with all applicable laws. A genuine passion for supporting others—whether through mentoring junior staff or engaging constructively with external partners—will set you apart as someone who contributes positively to both organisational culture and broader business objectives.

  • Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited institution; must hold an active attorney licence recognised locally.
  • At least seven years’ proven experience in a similar capacity within large format retail or related sectors where complex legal frameworks are navigated daily.
  • Demonstrated expertise in corporate governance practices including board management, regulatory filings, and multi-entity oversight.
  • Advanced skills in drafting, reviewing, negotiating, and standardising commercial contracts covering various business arrangements such as joint ventures or franchise deals.
  • Extensive background in litigation management encompassing court appearances, arbitration proceedings, administrative hearings with government bodies, and preparation of relevant documentation.
  • Comprehensive understanding of regulatory compliance requirements at both national and international levels—particularly those affecting import/export operations or B2B transactions.
  • Exceptional analytical abilities paired with strong negotiation techniques; adept at communicating complex concepts clearly under pressure while balancing multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Experience supporting special projects such as investment programmes or tax-related matters is highly desirable.
  • Proven track record of effective stakeholder engagement—both internally among colleagues and externally with clients or regulators—through empathetic communication and collaborative problem-solving approaches.
