About the Systems Engineer Role: As a Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management, maintenance, support, and optimisation of the IT network and systems. You will work to define the IT requirements of the business and ensure IT services meet or exceed the service level agreements. Systems Engineer will also work to address IT problems and faults, manage changes, make updates, conduct maintenance, plan, test and deliver projects, enhance operations processes, optimise network and system services and monitor and report IT performance against required metrics.
Ensure appropriate platform/cloud (compute/storage) operation to the APAC business so customers can accomplish their business tasks and transact with our systems. This includes triaging, prioritising, documenting, reporting, maintaining platforms and services as well as actively resolving customer support requests
Resolve problems using diagnostic tools and problem-solving processes as well as manage and record workflow in a Service Management tool. Advanced experience with cloud management, server/storage systems, software applications, operating systems and network connectivity is required
Service strategy, design, transition and operations
Assist in defining the overall Service Strategies required to support the business
Take responsibility for service performance across all offices in the region
Research, analyse, evaluate, and monitor infrastructure to ensure systems are configured to operate at agreed IT service availability and optimal performance levels
Analyse existing system process and policy and platform design while recommending improvements to operations (network and systems) and integrated hardware, software, communications and operating systems
Installing, configuring, testing, maintaining, and administering new and upgraded networks, software applications, servers and workstations
Prepare and maintain procedures and documentation for Infrastructure inventory, and recording diagnosis and resolution of faults, enhancements and modifications to the infrastructure environment and maintenance instructions
Plan, develop, deploy, test, and optimise network and system services, taking responsibility for configuration management and overall operational readiness as per company standards
Support the technical activities of other team members, providing a level of guidance to the team when it comes to technical activities in his/her technical domain
Help ensure that disaster recovery capability exists for the region, work to maintain the Backup and DR strategy outlined by senior IT management
Work with the regional Incident Management, Service Desk, Desktop Support and NOC teams to provide third-line technical support
Technical standards, processes and reporting
Support a sustained move to standardised processes and procedures
Contribute to a mindset of continuous improvement of systems, process, procedure and policy
Responsible for operational status and performance reporting to management
Monitor system capacity thresholds and report where capacity tolerances are minimal
Administer, adhere to, and improve change control procedures and processes
To be successful in the Systems Engineer job, you must have the ability to work effectively in an agile environment and work with global team members. You must know how to anticipate the needs of the business and be able to communicate them well to concerned parties.
Undergraduate degree in IT, Engineering, Computer Science, Information Science or Management Information Systems (MIS) or science based discipline or similar level of experience
Five years' previous experience as a Systems Engineer in a similar scale commercial environment
Extensive experience of working with conflicting, highly complex information
Strong vendor management experience and management of supplier relationships (including SLA’s, escalations, contracts)
Knowledge of disaster recovery, including site level failover
Proven track record of running an infrastructure operations environment to the highest professional standards, including strong service, operation, and delivery process/documentations standards
Continuous process improvement orientation and experience in an operational context
Experience with Change and Release Management and ITIL Service Management methodologies
Industry certifications such as those from Cisco, Microsoft, AWS
Project Management qualification, e.g. Prince 2, APMP would be advantageous, not essential
Excellent technical understanding of: Microsoft Windows, Linux Operationg Systems, Microsoft Active Directory Services, Microsoft Entra ID, Microsoft Exchange and Office 365, Unified Communications and Microsoft Teams, Powershell scripting, Git version control system, Terraform, Managed hosting, virtualisation, and cloud services such as Azure, Hyper-V and AWS, Network Switching and Routing and Monitoring Systems and Protocols
