Model Risk Manager
MODEL RISK MANAGER
A leading financial institution is seeking a Model Risk Manager to play a pivotal role in shaping the organisation’s risk management landscape. This opportunity offers you the chance to own and enhance critical policy frameworks, ensuring alignment with regulatory standards and enterprise-wide risk strategies. You will be at the heart of governance, influencing decision-making at the highest levels and providing consolidated risk views for Senior Management and the Board. The role promises exposure to complex model environments, including ICAAP, ECL, stress testing, pricing, and strategic models, while offering flexibility and support for your professional growth. If you are passionate about driving responsible outcomes and thrive in an environment that values collaboration, transparency, and continuous learning, this is your ideal next step.
* You will have direct influence on enterprise-wide risk management policies and frameworks, ensuring compliance with BSP guidelines and Basel standards while supporting organisational objectives.
* The position provides significant visibility with Senior Management and Board-level committees, allowing you to translate technical findings into actionable insights that shape strategic decisions.
* Enjoy flexible working opportunities and access to ongoing training programmes designed to foster your development within a supportive leadership structure that values inclusivity and knowledge sharing.
What you'll do:
As a Model Risk Manager you will be entrusted with responsibility for developing and refining key policy frameworks that underpin the organisation’s approach to model risk. Your day-to-day activities will involve defining governance standards for every stage of the model lifecycle—from initial development through validation to retirement—ensuring rigorous oversight at each step. You will maintain a centralised inventory of models used throughout the business, aggregating information to highlight concentrations or dependencies that could impact enterprise risk. By translating technical findings into clear enterprise risk views for senior leaders and board members, you will help drive responsible outcomes across ICAAP, ECL/IFRS9 provisioning, stress testing exercises, pricing strategies, and capital planning. Your role also includes overseeing validation governance processes: reviewing results from independent validations; identifying systemic issues; escalating concerns promptly; preparing dashboards; collaborating with cross-functional teams; supporting training initiatives; and championing inclusive practices. Success in this role requires strong interpersonal skills as well as technical expertise—your ability to connect with colleagues across departments will be essential in building consensus around model risk priorities.
* Take ownership of the model risk policy and framework, continuously enhancing them to ensure full alignment with BSP guidelines, Basel standards, and enterprise-wide ERM, ICAAP, and Risk Appetite frameworks.
* Define robust governance standards for all aspects of the model lifecycle including materiality assessment, risk classification, escalation thresholds, and comprehensive reporting protocols.
* Maintain a centralised inventory of all models used across the organisation, ensuring complete capture of relevant details such as ownership, purpose, lifecycle status, and risk tiering.
* Aggregate model information from various sources to identify concentrations, dependencies, and potential overreliance across ICAAP, ECL/IFRS9, stress testing, pricing, and strategic models.
* Translate complex technical findings into consolidated enterprise risk views that inform Senior Management and Board-level oversight.
* Oversee validation governance by reviewing outcomes from model validations, identifying systemic issues or weaknesses in controls, and ensuring timely escalation in accordance with established risk appetite.
* Prepare detailed dashboards and reports for Senior Management, the Risk Management Committee, and Board-level review to facilitate informed decision-making.
* Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including Finance, Risk Management, Quantitative Analysis, and IT to ensure seamless integration of model risk processes.
* Support ongoing training initiatives by sharing best practices in model governance and fostering a culture of continuous improvement within the team.
* Champion inclusive practices by engaging stakeholders across departments to build consensus around model risk priorities.
