Our client is seeking a seasoned Chief Legal Officer to join their team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to provide strategic legal counsel, ensure compliance with all laws and regulations, manage legal risks, develop and implement legal strategies, oversee contract management, represent the company in legal proceedings, manage the legal department, and advise on intellectual property matters.

What you'll do:

As a Chief Legal Officer, your role will be pivotal in shaping the future of our client's business. You will be responsible for providing strategic legal counsel to the executive team and board on significant transactions. Your expertise will be crucial in ensuring compliance with all laws and regulations. You will also play a key role in identifying, assessing, and mitigating legal risks. Your ability to develop and implement effective legal strategies will directly impact the company's business goals. Additionally, you will oversee contract management, represent the company in legal proceedings, manage litigation processes, oversee the legal department, protect intellectual property rights, and support corporate governance.

  • Advise the board of directors on corporate governance matters and ensure compliance with governance standards.

  • Develop and implement legal strategies that align with the company’s overall business goals.

  • Ensure the company complies with all applicable laws, regulations, and industry-specific requirements.

  • Identify, assess, and mitigate legal and regulatory risks across all areas of the business.

  • Manage and oversee the legal department, including supervision of in-house attorneys and coordination with external counsel.

  • Provide strategic legal advice to the executive team and board on major transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, and joint ventures.

  • Represent the company in legal proceedings and manage all aspects of litigation and dispute resolution.

  • Review, negotiate, and draft a wide range of contracts to support company operations and protect legal interests.

  • Safeguard the company’s intellectual property rights and provide guidance on related legal matters.

What you bring:

The ideal candidate for this Chief Legal Officer position brings over 15 years of experience in a similar role, including at least 7 years in People Management or multinational company. You have experience working in a regulated e-money / payment services or financial services institution in the Philippines and/or Asia Pacific. Your familiarity with financial services regulation and experience dealing with financial regulators such as the SEC will be highly valued. Your experience with technology companies, ideally Fintech, will be beneficial. You are capable of handling a broad range of tasks using sound judgment, analytical rigor, and business pragmatism. Your excellent communication skills and fluency in English will be crucial in this role. Regional exposure preferably in the APAC region is preferred.

  • 15+ years of legal experience, with at least 7 years in a people management role or within a multinational company.

  • Ability to handle a broad range of legal matters using sound judgment, analytical rigor, and strong business pragmatism.

  • Excellent communication skills, with fluency in English.

  • Experience dealing with financial regulators such as the SEC.

  • Experience working in a regulated e-money, payment services, or financial services institution in the Philippines and/or Asia Pacific.

  • Experience with technology companies, ideally within the fintech sector.

  • Familiarity with financial services regulation.

  • Regional exposure, preferably within the APAC region.
