What you'll do:

As a Senior Backend Engineer in Makati, you will be entrusted with architecting secure APIs and data services that underpin a sophisticated SaaS platform serving global brands. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve developing robust backend systems using Python frameworks like Django or FastAPI alongside SQL databases hosted on Azure. You will implement advanced authentication mechanisms leveraging Azure AD SSO while supporting multi-tenancy patterns for enterprise clients. Integrating third-party platforms such as HubSpot for CRM automation or OpenAI for workflow enhancements will be central to your role. You’ll also design resilient asynchronous pipelines for file processing tasks using Celery/Redis. Maintaining high standards of code quality through testing frameworks like pytest and participating in peer reviews will be expected. Instrumenting observability tools ensures smooth operations while collaborating closely with cross-functional teams brings the product vision into reality. • Take ownership of backend development for the next-generation B2B SaaS product by building Django REST APIs consumed by a React SPA through App Gateway and WAF.
• Implement secure authentication and authorisation solutions using Azure AD SSO (with optional Okta), role-based access controls, and multi-tenant patterns to ensure robust security.
• Build and operate resilient asynchronous pipelines using Celery/Redis for file processing and job orchestration while exposing job status updates to the user interface.
• Integrate external systems such as HubSpot (REST/webhooks), Outlook/SMTP notifications, and OpenAI endpoints to automate workflows efficiently.
• Design and maintain schemas within Azure SQL databases; manage artefacts/results in Azure Blob Storage with proper retention policies and lineage tracking.
• Ensure performance, scalability, and reliability of both internal-facing and external-facing services by profiling and optimising Python code as well as SQL queries.
• Instrument observability through structured logs, metrics, tracing via App Insights/Azure Monitor/OpenTelemetry; create runbooks alongside SLAs/SLOs for operational excellence.
• Write well-crafted, thoroughly tested, readable, and maintainable code while actively contributing to code reviews and upholding engineering standards across the team.
• Stay current with backend technologies, security best practices (including OWASP guidelines), Azure advancements; participate in threat modelling sessions and periodic system hardening.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with product managers, designers, QA engineers, and other stakeholders to bring the product vision to life effectively.

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science or related field demonstrating strong academic foundation relevant to backend engineering.
• At least five years’ experience building production-grade backend systems utilising Python (Django/DRF or FastAPI) combined with SQL expertise.
• Proven track record designing RESTful APIs as well as asynchronous workers (Celery/Redis), including handling idempotency issues, retries logic, monitoring instrumentation.
• Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure cloud services such as App Service, App Gateway plus WAF integration, Azure AD/OIDC authentication flows, Key Vault management, Azure SQL database administration, Blob Storage utilisation, Monitor/App Insights configuration.
• Demonstrated ability integrating third-party platforms like HubSpot APIs/webhooks for CRM automation; SMTP/Outlook notification systems; OpenAI API endpoints for workflow enhancement.
• Strong data modelling skills coupled with query tuning proficiency; comfortable managing schema migrations alongside performance diagnostics within large datasets.
• Proficient in testing methodologies (pytest), CI/CD pipelines (Git/GitHub/GitHub Actions); active participation in code reviews plus documentation best practices.
• Solid understanding of security best practices including OWASP guidelines adherence; secrets management protocols; RBAC implementation; encryption at rest/in transit; awareness of GDPR requirements.
