What you'll do:

• Design, build, and operate production-grade software and data solutions end-to-end by taking ownership from problem definition through architecture, implementation, deployment, monitoring, and ongoing enhancement.
• Develop reliable, scalable, secure, and well-governed data pipelines and products using AWS services alongside Snowflake for diverse data types including structured, semi-structured, and unstructured sources.
• Model, curate, and optimise Snowflake datasets, schemas, and data structures in accordance with enterprise platform standards to ensure high performance, quality assurance, consistency, and usability for downstream consumers.
• Apply best-in-class software engineering practices such as clean code principles, modular design patterns, automated testing frameworks, CI/CD pipelines, observability strategies, secure development methodologies, and maintainable architectures.
• Partner with both business users and technical teams to translate ambiguous requirements into robust data solutions while prioritising delivery schedules and identifying opportunities for advanced analytics or AI-driven enhancements.
• Utilise AI-assisted engineering tools as part of daily development activities to accelerate coding tasks such as refactoring, documentation generation, testing automation, debugging processes, and solution exploration without compromising on quality standards.
• Build cloud-native integrations and automation workflows on AWS by effectively leveraging compute resources, storage options, networking capabilities, security features, orchestration mechanisms, event-driven architectures, and managed AI services where appropriate.
• Take responsibility for deployment processes including release management and production operations; this encompasses troubleshooting incidents, conducting root-cause analysis sessions, performance tuning exercises, incident resolution efforts, peer code reviews with colleagues, pair programming initiatives, and reusing proven engineering patterns.

What you bring:

The ideal Senior Java Engineer brings extensive experience developing large-scale enterprise systems underpinned by rigorous academic training in computer science or related fields. Your background includes significant exposure to designing deploying operating secure cloud-based applications—particularly leveraging AWS infrastructure alongside Snowflake for advanced data management.

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science Software Engineering Data Science Artificial Intelligence Machine Learning or related technical discipline providing a strong academic foundation for complex problem solving.
• At least 7 years of hands-on experience in software engineering solution engineering or data engineering roles within enterprise environments demonstrating a consistent record of delivering production-grade systems.
• Proven ability to build operate and maintain data products cloud services or AI-enabled solutions that achieve measurable business outcomes while maintaining clear operational ownership throughout the lifecycle.
• Deep practical experience with AWS core services including compute storage networking identity access management security orchestration monitoring serverless computing or event-driven architectures; AWS certification (ideally Solutions Architect) is preferred.
• Advanced proficiency in Java encompassing software design principles API development automated testing packaging dependency management production maintainability—all essential for robust system delivery.
• Experience working with AWS AI services such as Amazon Bedrock plus familiarity with agent-based AI solution patterns retrieval-augmented generation model evaluation guardrails responsible AI practices is highly desirable.
• Demonstrated habit of utilising AI-assisted engineering tools like GitHub Copilot Claude Cursor or similar platforms as part of everyday workflow to boost productivity code quality testing documentation speed of delivery.
