What you'll do:

• Analyse root causes of client problems and resolve them using existing products and configurations whenever possible, ensuring efficient use of available resources.
• Design end-to-end solutions when changes are required, covering backend services, applications, network provisioning, devices, and firmware to meet evolving client needs.
• Draft comprehensive technical specifications for internal development teams including data models, API contracts, sequence diagrams, state diagrams, integration points, and error handling protocols.
• Evaluate the impact of proposed changes on current systems by considering dependencies, migrations, backwards compatibility issues, and rollout strategies.
• Collaborate with global development and product teams to prioritise feature builds and provide ongoing support throughout the implementation phase.
• Advocate for simpler or more robust approaches when requests can be fulfilled more efficiently or reliably than initially proposed.
• Set transparent expectations with clients regarding feasibility, timelines, trade-offs, and risks by explaining designs in accessible terms for both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Flag potential risks early in the process to ensure proactive management of project outcomes.

What you bring:

• At least five years of hands-on experience in software engineering roles focused on backend systems where you have demonstrated your dependability in delivering robust solutions.
• Minimum two years spent in solution design, product ownership or technical lead positions where you have translated business requirements into actionable development plans.
• Proven track record of writing detailed technical designs that serve as direct blueprints for development teams implementing new features or system changes.
• Comprehensive understanding of system architecture including RESTful APIs, event-driven integrations, data modelling techniques, distributed systems design principles.
• Comfort reading codebases and reasoning about implementation trade-offs to ensure optimal performance and maintainability.
• Experience collaborating with large enterprise clients involving complex stakeholder groups where you have set clear expectations regarding project scope and delivery timelines.
• Confident facilitating workshops that bring together both technical specialists and non-technical participants to align on project goals and solutions.
• Ability to take ownership of problems from initial diagnosis through deployment stages with minimal supervision while maintaining open lines of communication.
• Nice to have: Familiarity with telco/MVNO platforms such as provisioning systems (BSS/OSS), billing processes; exposure to 5G/fixed wireless technologies; experience with CPE device firmware or IoT solutions.
