IT Senior Manager (Operational Technology)

Save job

A leading renewable energy organisation is seeking a Senior Manager – Operational Technology Infrastructure and Cybersecurity to drive the assessment, standardisation, and enhancement of OT systems across their solar, wind, and battery energy storage sites.

This pivotal role offers you the opportunity to shape the future of secure plant operations by evaluating SCADA systems, networks, and telecom setups, identifying gaps in cybersecurity and infrastructure, and implementing remediation programmes aligned with globally recognised OT security standards. You will be at the forefront of modernising critical infrastructure, governing change control processes, managing vendors and ISPs, and partnering closely with Site Operations and Corporate IT/Security teams. The position promises frequent domestic travel and occasional international assignments, allowing you to engage directly with stakeholders and deliver impactful projects. If you are passionate about creating safe, reliable, and secure environments for renewable energy operations—and thrive in a collaborative setting where your expertise is valued—this is your chance to make a meaningful difference.

  • You will lead the uplift of OT infrastructure across multiple renewable energy sites, ensuring alignment with industry-leading security standards such as ISA/IEC 62443 and NIST SP 800-82.
  • Your role will involve close collaboration with site operations teams, corporate IT/security departments, vendors, ISPs, and grid operators to ensure seamless integration and compliance.
  • Enjoy flexible working opportunities, extensive training programmes to enhance your skills, generous pension contributions, and supportive leadership that values knowledge sharing and professional growth.

What you'll do:

As Senior Manager – Operational Technology Infrastructure and Cybersecurity you will be responsible for orchestrating the transformation of operational technology across diverse renewable energy facilities. Your day-to-day activities will centre around conducting thorough assessments of existing systems—from SCADA platforms to network topologies—identifying vulnerabilities or inefficiencies that could impact plant reliability or security. You will design reference architectures that set the standard for segmentation/firewall/VPN deployments while overseeing upgrades/remediation projects that bring these sites up to par with global best practices. By establishing monitoring frameworks/logging protocols/playbooks for incident response you will ensure rapid detection/action on any threats. Vendor/ISP management forms a key part of your remit as does change control/configuration baseline governance. Training delivery is another vital aspect—empowering site engineers/technicians with the latest cybersecurity know-how. Reporting on risks/KPIs keeps leadership informed while partnership with IT/Security teams ensures seamless integration between operational/corporate domains. Compliance/regulatory engagement rounds out your responsibilities alongside relationship-building during frequent site visits.

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of operational technology at all solar, wind, and battery energy storage sites including SCADA systems, network architecture, telecom/ISP arrangements, remote access protocols, endpoints, and security controls.
  • Benchmark existing cybersecurity measures against established OT standards such as ISA/IEC 62443, NIST 800-82, and ISO 27001 mappings to identify areas for improvement.
  • Define and enforce standardised OT reference architectures covering segmentation strategies, firewalls deployment, VPN configurations, DMZ/jump hosts setup, backup links management, and time synchronisation protocols.
  • Oversee the reliability of SCADA systems and data integrity by managing HMI interfaces, historians databases, gateways connectivity, protocol converters integration, and enterprise system interfaces.
  • Lead remediation projects including hardware refresh initiatives, network reconfiguration efforts, implementation of advanced security tools, telemetry enhancements for improved monitoring.
  • Establish robust OT monitoring frameworks and incident response mechanisms encompassing logging/SIEM ingestion processes, detection playbooks development, regular drills execution, and governance of remote access.
  • Manage relationships with ISPs and telecom providers ensuring last-mile connectivity solutions such as cellular/satellite backups are in place alongside effective SLAs; oversee vendor/integrator/OEM partnerships.
  • Govern OT change management procedures by maintaining configuration baselines through systematic backups/versioning practices while ensuring approvals/rollback plans are adhered to.
  • Develop tailored OT cybersecurity training programmes for site technicians/engineers focusing on operational best practices; deliver engaging sessions to build team capability.
  • Maintain an up-to-date OT risk register along with KPIs/KRIs reporting regularly to senior leadership; provide actionable insights for continuous improvement.
  • Partner with Corporate IT/Network/Security teams to facilitate secure IT/OT integration including identity management solutions/backups/SIEM/cloud data flows coordination.
  • Ensure health safety environment (HSE) compliance as well as regulatory adherence in all OT activities; coordinate effectively with grid operators/auditors when required.
  • Plan/executing site travel schedules efficiently while building strong relationships with site leadership/O&M teams fostering trust/cooperation.
