She shares her story below:
Prior to working in Robert Walters, I was focused more on the sourcing and operations side of the business. I graduated with a degree in Psychology, and my educational background and internship were aligned with the corporate world. My role wasn’t client-facing, so I was hesitant at first with my application.
I’m fortunate that the managers of Robert Walters were thorough with their training and induction process. The team was hands-on in ensuring that I have the basics continuously developed with my progress, and I felt that everything was aligned in terms of where I was and where the company wanted me to move forward.
“You will learn new skills during your work, but you have to be intentional about being better.”
My typical day consists of calls and emails. We make it a point to check on clients, not just when they have roles, but also when they have concerns or doubts regarding their careers. In Robert Walters, our relationship with our candidates goes beyond transaction.
Additionally, we also make an effort to make exploratory conversations with clients who need professionals for their niche roles. We strive to build strong relationships with our clients by providing them with the appropriate candidates for their needs and offering our own insights regarding their business concerns. It’s not the easiest task, but there is a personal reward when I know that I was able to place a candidate with a client.
I still have a lot to learn, but my goal is to build my own path and strategy in how I approach both candidates and clients. The company allows me enough freedom to discover for myself how I want to define my role as a Recruitment Consultant.
“You have to be creative, and you have to think outside the box to know how you would handle the role."
I'm hoping that Robert Walters will continue to grow further. This company offers a lot of sustainable opportunities for professionals with diverse backgrounds, so this is a good path for fresh talents exploring their career options. The role is not easy, but it is rewarding for those with resilience and persistence to improve themselves.
At the same time, I’m aiming for a more senior role where I can guide new consultants and help them create a method that would fit their approach in recruitment. I know how challenging being a recruitment consultant can be at the beginning, but any professional with the desire for this position would succeed with the proper guidance.
Above all else, you make a significant contribution to a professional's career growth, and it is rewarding to know that you changed their paths for the better.
“Take your shot at applying as a recruitment consultant, even if you are not confident with your current skillset."
